A new home often has a few empty walls, which makes art an appealing housewarming gift. The difficult part is choosing a piece and size someone else will want to live with.
If you want to choose the artwork
Take your cue from the recipient's home and the pictures they already enjoy. Notice their colors, subjects and whether they prefer quiet compositions or something bold. If possible, check where the piece will hang and measure the space.
A framed print can be a personal gift, but it is still worth asking about size and format. Guessing larger is no safer than guessing smaller.
If you would like them to choose
A gift card lets the recipient select the artwork, format and size when they are ready. You can introduce them to a collection you think they will like and leave the final choice up to them.
With made-to-order art, the chosen print goes into production after the order is placed. The gift card and the finished artwork are separate stages, so allow for production and delivery if the piece needs to arrive by a specific date.
For a home that is still taking shape
Furniture and wall colors may change in the first few months. Giving someone time to choose can be more useful than arriving with a piece before they know where it will go.
